Facilitation Academy- The basics (8 days residential training)

‘The basics’ provides practical and general learning possibility about facilitation, groups, roles and responsibilities of facilitators. The training will be designed in a way that it supports participants to get prepared about how to lead non-formal educational programs for young people from few hours workshop up to a week long international youth exchange.

About the project

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Facilitation Academy is a non-formal educational program of the Federation of Children’s and Youth Municipal Councils since 2015. This program aims to provide supervised learning process for participants with relatively lack of experience in facilitating group learning processes. The Academy so far has hosted over 50 participants through two editionsand implemented one practice project also. The main concept is to provide useful and quality learning for those who are interested in designing non-formal education programs for young people but not having a chance to learn it elsewhere.

VENUE

Pannonhalma is a small town, close to the western board of Hungary, it is about 130 kilometers from Budapest.
The trainings will be hosted by the House of St. James, where a simple but demanding environment is provided for the implementation of an effective learning process.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

We will organise all the participants travel both inside Hungary from the airport and to the airport. We will be in constant contact with the participants before purchasing the tickets, in order to select the right flights and get to the airport.

Before the actual event we will send all of the important information for the participants of course.

FINANCIAL DATA

The project is funded by Erasmus+, the food, accommodation and travel costs are covered. The limit of travel reimbursement varies from country to country and based on the rules of the Erasmus+ Program Guide.

The tickets required for the trip will be purchased in advance by the Federation and provided to the participants. This is conditional on a deposit of EUR 100 per participant being transferred to the bank account specified in the contract. The amount of the deposit will be returned to the participant’s bank account number provided by the participant arrived for the training.

MEALS

We provide meals for everyone three times a day. All the meals will be served in the venue’s dining room. We will consider anyone’s special needs if you let us know in time. There will be no chance for changing menus!

ABOUT THE INSURANCE

We are not able to buy insurance you in Hungary. EU Health Card is accepted in all hospitals so bring it if you have. Basically that is enough to get primary health care in case of emergency. If you wish to have a complex insurance please inform us about it, as we need to count with the costs of it.

PACKING LIST

  • Outcomes of your preparation tasks.
  • Things to prepare your own intercultural evening presentations.
  • A water bottle. We will need them during the program, so bring your own.
  • Bring your own cup for tea or coffee.
  • Shoes that are good for going outside, we will have few outdoor programs.
  • Guitar/Ukulele or other instruments if you play one, music from your country (not necessary, we will have at least one ukulele for those who likes to play)
  • Practical clothes for different kinds of weather.
  • Raincoat or umbrella in case of rain during the outdoor elements of the program.
  • Towels and slippers.
  • Personal things: hygiene related, medicines you usually take, or other things you need.
  • Cash for your personal purchases. There’s no ATM in the venue.

We would like to raise your attention that in Hungary the currency is Forint (HUF) and not Euro.

KOVÁCS VANDA
trainer

Youth worker. Trainer. Graphic facilitator.

As a youth worker, she was working in Budapest, at the former Cherry Youth Information Point, on the first floor of Szimpla. During those years she gained experiences about the reality of youth participation in urban circumstances.

In her training practices, she mainly working with the organizations of the countryside, where she is learning new aspects of participation.

One of her main and favorite themes is participatory planning and building with young people, and she keeps looking for how to adapt the theories into real, hands-on practices.

GULYÁS BARNABÁS
trainer

Has university degrees from Hungary and Australia on social work, and graduated as community and civic expert. Currently works also as lecturer at ELTE University.
Barnabás has relevant experience in the field of youth work, especially in topics such as active citizenship, democratic building and youth participation and local youth work.
He is passionate about non-formal education and eager to contribute to improve the quality of it.

An active leader in a national umbrella organisation in Hungary since 2009, member of different networks.
Has numerous experience as trainer both on the national and the international field, working with partners such as National Agencies, NGO’s and international organisations like the Council of Europe

BÁLINT ANDREA
project coordinator

In connection with youth work, she gained her experience through the partial parts by the Federation and used for more than 10 years. She is currently responsible for the operational management of the Federation, the coordination of existing activities and projects.

She is organized and she has a general overview of the projects with transparent and regular capabilities and become comprehensive with the involvement of staff, trainees and experts for planning and task preparation allocators.

Participants' profile

PARTICIPANTS PROFILE

Youth workers and youth work practitioners who are:
– at least 18 years old
– want to develop their skills in facilitation
– want to raise the quality of the youth programs they implement
– at least minimal experienced in youth work or familiar with the youth work context
– motivated & able to use the experience of the project to use their daily work
– would like to take part in the communication of the project and/or to take part on the youth exchange as an organiser at the end of the project.

In addition to the above, preference will be given to applicants who are able to take part in all three trainings and who wish to play an active role in the implementation of the youth exchange.
